Who thinks up these things?

Donnie has been talking about the Hawaii chair infomercial he saw a few nights ago. He found this clip on You Tube from the Ellen Degeneres show. Oh how funny this was. I can't believe the things people come up with!

We may not make it to 3

When Hoss turned two someone at church told me that "Terrible Twos" really does not exist, but it's more like "Terrible Threes."

Boy she was wrong. Or if she wasn't, then I sure am dreading three.

In the past two days Hoss has nearly caused me to drink. Yesterday at supper he took his cup of milk and dumped it over his head. Obviously, on purpose. From there I took him straight to the bathroom where he got a bath.

While he was in the bathtub and I had my back turned he climbed right out of the tub. He has never done that before. I had to chase him back into the tub.

And today, oh, today...I thought today would be a new day! Today he broke his glasses. You know, these BRAND NEW GLASSES, that we got only A WEEK AGO! God blessed this child today when his Daddy picked him up from Grandma's house instead of Mommy. Because who knows how Mommy would have reacted. I thought the one year warranty would last a little longer than A WEEK! Not only did he break them, but he did so intentionally. My mother-in-law said he took them off, put them on a table and smashed them with his hands. My husband is currently taking him to the eye doctor to see about repair...or maybe cashing in the warranty.

Oh, I need a break! This kid is going to drive me crazy! I love him to death, but Heaven help us.

Quick Update: The glasses were repaired by Donnie. At this moment nothing serious seems to have happened to them. We will be having a long talk about wearing our glasses correctly tonight!

The professor....where's Marianne?

Donnie is often not a fan of the clothing choices I make for Hoss. I make these choices based on what I think is cute and Sunday I thought he was adorable. I'll let you decide. (Please excuse the highwater pants...we are having issues with sizes right now, 2Ts are too short, but 3Ts are huge!)

Disclaimer: Hoss is never interested in stopping long enough for me to take his picture so these pictures are not the best, but I still think he's cute!

Nick's surgery went great!

Nick's surgery went great yesterday. Please still be in prayer for him and his family as they begin another round of treatment.

Here is a message from Nick's website from his parents:

"Thank you so much for praying for Nick! The MRI of his spine was perfectly clear! Dr. Kosnik was able to remove the entire tumor and said that he looked around with a microscope and saw nothing else that concerned him! Nick has had a good day, mostly sleeping. He has talked some and has continued to make us laugh! We are anxious to get home and start our new treatments from St. Jude's and Utah. Have a wonderful evening! Love you all! Tammy and Tim"

New Kids Comeback

The news is out, The New Kids on the Block may be making a comeback.

Yes you read that correctly, they are COMING BACK! I was a swooning tween fan in the 80s-90s. Not only that, but in high school I led a group to celebrate "New Kids on the Block" day (I have no idea what day it was, but it was in a New Kids book I had from the tween years).

It didn't stop there. In college a friend and I attempted to learn the "Hangin' Tough" dance. Oh yes I did! It wasn't pretty.

Now, as a late 20-something mom, I may be heading to a concert. Ok, I don't know if I will go that far, but my childhood memories of dreaming of Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight are returning.

In the spirit of comeback, here's a little something for your viewing pleasure.

Nick needs our prayers

Please pray for 12 year old Nick. He is scheduled for his 5th brain surgery tomorrow after another tumor was found. His mom, Tammy, posted here about her fears (the fears any mother would have) and her faith that God will heal Nick. Also, check out Nick's website and learn about him. I posted about my connection to Nick about a year ago here.

Please remember Nick in your prayers tonight, tomorrow and always.

Oh my stuffy nose!

I have been pressing my luck and I guess my time has come. I have a cold.

I have been having headaches for a couple days, the sinus headaches which are so annoying. This morning I have decided that a cold is inevitable. My nose is stuffy and full of grossness and the headache continues along with an occasional sneeze.

I plan to run out later to get some medicine to try to prevent the worst of this, but I have a feeling it's coming regardless. What medicine works best for you guys when you have a cold? Right now my symptoms are more of a sinus infection, stuffy nose, headache and nasal pressure. Any advice??

An entire post NOT about bedtime!

We have not yet attempted bedtime tonight yet so I have no new news from that, which I am sure you are all very glad about! However, I am a mom and I guess I fall under the category of mommy bloggers so this post is about the week's activities of my dear son, of course!

Today we visited Hoss's Ear, Nose and Throat doctor and now have a date scheduled for tubes. I am very relieved already. I know this is what Hoss needs and what I have been advocating for over the past few months and finally it has paid off. Now I just have to keep him well until February 22nd, which is not an easy task for this child!

Yesterday we picked up Hoss's new glasses! And what perfect timing. Hoss's glasses have looked like this for the past few months:

There are so many things wrong with the old glasses. The most signficant one was the broken right side taped together which did not hold the arm correctly so it turned in the wrong direction. The glasses were also so bent out of shape they would barely stay on Jake's face. A little over a week ago we went and picked out some new glasses. Thankfully Hoss was picked up on Donnie's vision insurance in January so we saved about $250! That, my friends, warmed my frugal, deal-barginning heart.

Here is Hoss yesterday with the new and definitely improved glasses.

There is plenty of room for Hoss to grow into these glasses and I pray that they will last us awhile. Ok, who am I kidding? At least these have a year warranty, that would make 2 frames for the price of one. I am certain that warranty will be cashed in...that's just the way we roll!

The bedtime drama continues

Is anyone else exhausted? Because I am!

I think it may have something to do with the 2 hours I spent laying in contorted positions on Hoss's bed trying to help him go to sleep last night.

Hopefully tonight I can dwindle down that time to about oh, an hour and forty five minutes!

Big Boy Bed Update

Well, at least falling asleep was easy...staying asleep was a different story.

Hoss has always been a kid who will wake up in the middle of the night, play for a little while and then go back to sleep. Now that we are attempting the "Big Boy Bed" and he is able to get up and wander around, playing is a lot more fun.

However, last night he didn't play, he cried. It first began at 1:30 a.m. I got up, went into his room and laid down beside his bed. He was ready to play, but I made it known it was not time for playing, but for sleeping. I think my snoring when I would drift off and on in and out of sleep helped him figure that out.

At 2:30 a.m. I decided to go back to bed. Ok, really I woke up and realized Hoss was asleep and I went to bed.

At 3:30 a.m. the crying began again. At this point I was too tired to help him go back to sleep so I just put him in bed with me. At 4:30 a.m. he fell off my bed, which scared me to death, but he kept sleeping. I am not kidding...he never woke up. At first I thought he was knocked out, but I think he just kept sleeping. He is a lot like me, a very solid sleeper...when he does sleep.

We are venturing into some unchartered waters.

Step One Toward Growing Up and No Longer Being My Little Baby

After the nap time trauma on Sunday I decided to brave it tonight. Today my co-worker brought the mattress for the bed he so graciously gave us last week and we decided tonight was as perfect a night as any to put the "Big Boy Bed" together (plus we have company visiting and an extra set of hands to carry everything upstairs).

I was prepared for a long night ahead (and I guess it still can be), but I had a child sleeping in his "Big Boy Bed" within 10 minutes!

We started with the regular bedtime routine, brushing our teeth, reading a book and turning off the light. And then turning it back on. And then turning it off again, and back on...and off...you get the idea. Hoss was very excited to learn that he can reach the light switch when he stands on his bed. I was not so excited about that.

Here he is trying out his new bed (notice the Smurf sheet, it was Donnie's when he was a kiddo):

And here is he playing with two flags from his pirate ship...doesn't he look sooooo grown up?

After a few minutes of playing I reminded Hoss it was time to go to bed. I then put up the baby gate in the doorway of his room, so he can't leave his room and run wild through the house at 2 a.m., which I am certain he will do if given the opportunity. The gate did him in. He realized I was serious. He sat on his bed for a minute staring off into to space, occassionally stick out his lower lip threatening a scream fest. Then about as quickly as he would stick his lip out he laid his head down and was asleep.

I was shocked that it was so, dare I say it, easy...and I still am shocked (almost more shocked that I was able to step over the baby gate without falling on my face). But I'm not holding my breath. I doubt every night will go so well...tonight was a miracle helped along by the fact that Hoss skipped a nap today and was exhausted.

Tomorrow will be a new day, we will see where that takes us. I'm sure I'll be eating my words!

Sleep my dear child, sleep!

I am currently listening to the screaming of my dear son.

He is in his crib refusing to take a nap and screaming.

I am reading blogs and praising God that this dear son of mine has not yet figured out how to get out of the crib.

Beside me sits a wooden frame of a bed a co-worker gave us. It sits on the ground and holds a twin mattress.

We do not have a twin mattress at this moment so the bed frame is propped up against the wall downstairs.

On days like this I wonder if the crib will hold a five year old because my son may be still sleeping in it when he is five.

I'm sure that the wooden bed frame will make great firewood. With the bitter cold temperatures and the expense of our electric bill we may be checking that out.

Or possibly we could use it to make a larger crib. Oh the possibilities.

My goal for 2008

I have not posted any New Year's Resolutions yet because I could not narrow down my list to just a few to post. I have numerous things which run through my head as goals, but one thing I'm afraid of is failure. Well, to be honest, I'm not afraid of failing, I'm afraid of disappointing. Disappointing myself and most of all disappointing others.

In addition to disappointment, I'm not always motivated to reach my goals. If I'm not motivated it is not going to happen. That's just the truth. I'm a procrastinator and rationalizer. I will put off starting any big project or goal and I will rationalize a million reasons why that is okay.

Saying all this, I have one major goal I am working toward this year and I'm ready to reveal it. I will reveal it because I need to. I need accountability. I can make a million goals in my head, but if I don't tell anyone and rely on my own motivation I simply will not succeed.

So, without further ado, my goal for 2008 is simple (yet not), I will loose weight. I have not put a specific number on this because I don't want to be tied to that number, plus I figure if I loose even one pound that will be a success (I'm all about setting my goals high!)

I began the dreaded weight loss journey yesterday. Two co-workers and I have joined forces and are holding each other accountable by eating lunch together and exercising. Tonight we stuck around after work and completed what is very possibly the hardest cardio workout known to man. In addition to the exercise we are attempting to better our eating habits. I have stopped my addition to Pepsi and began drinking water, water and more water. Although today I had possibly the worst caffeine withdrawal headache and had to get a Diet Coke, Diet! That was a success.

I may speak of this goal again in the future or I may not...that depends on my success rate! However, now that I have made this public I have even more motivation. All I know right now is that my bladder is calling...darn water!

Another Memory Made

Yesterday we decided to take Hoss to his first movie in a theater to see The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. The movie was cute and definitely one I would see again.

The behavior of my 27 month old was not cute and I definitely do not want to see that again! Being the curious child that he is, Hoss was not interested in sitting quietly in his seat, but instead he enjoyed sitting on the disgusting movie theater floor, trying to kick the seat in front of us (which had a calm child sitting in it) and, my favorite, reaching his hand between the seats in front of us trying to steal another child's crackers.

I don't believe we will be attempting another theater movie for quite some time.

Super Savings Saturday -- I heart CVS!

Have I ever mentioned that I heart CVS? Well, my savings this past week tell why.

Last Saturday I made my run to CVS to get a few deals. I ended up getting nearly $80 in items for only $3.23 out of pocket. I used a gift card I received when filling a prescription earlier in the week and I stacked several CVS coupons for this great deal!

The next day began a new week of deals. While my CVS did not have many of the deals I was planning to get. I was able to get over $60 in items for $6.53 out of pocket.

I am a CVS believer! For more Super Saturday Savings visit Money Saving Mom!

Macy Jane

Tonight we lost an important member of our family, Macy -- also known as Macy Jane or May May. For 16 1/2 years Macy was a companion, playmate, and devoted pet to each of us.

Since I found out about the news this evening, I have thought about all Macy has been through with our family. She has moved to 3 states, watched as my sister and I grew up and moved away, and became a beloved friend to our children. Macy was a constant friend to us when we were missing our "old" friends after we moved. Despite my sister and I moving away from our parents' home, Macy always greeted us with the same love and affection each time we returned as she always had. And when Hoss lists everyone at Gigi and Grandpa's house, he doesn't stop with the humans, but continues through Macy and Rusty.

You will be greatly missed May May. You will always be remembered as an important part of our family and lives. Love ya Girl!

*UPDATE!* Oh Where is My Cell Phone?

I need to vent so please bare with me.

Tonight I just had to go shopping because I had a coupon that was expiring today. I couldn't miss out on a deal, even if there was a tornado warning in our area.

Well, during all the exciting times of running into and out of stores to get some "deals" I have misplaced my cell phone. I am just so angry with myself.

As of this moment there is no telling where the phone is. Donnie went back to the stores to look for it and there was no sign of it. Hopefully we'll get a call tomorrow that it was found. I can only hope! If not, I guess I'll be going to get a new one...UGH!!!!

Well, I did not find my phone, but the lovely people at AT&T allowed me to upgrade my phone early, so for the price of FREE I was able to get a new phone! Yippee!

WFMW -- HELP! It's Potty Training time!

I am so very thankful that today is the Backward's Edition of WFMW. I am in desperate need for help!

The time has come for the most dreaded parenting task, at least it has been for me. I began worrying about this time when I was still pregnant with Hoss. The dreaded potty training is upon us.

A few days after Christmas Hoss had his first pee pee in the potty event. Since then, nothing. We have changed from diapers to pull ups only, but where do I go from here.

How did you potty train your boys? What type of potty did you use? The potty chair we have nearly seems too small for Hoss. Did you use the insert into the big potty? Did you start with sitting down or standing up? How much should I force the issue?

HELP! I need it!

Super Saving Saturday Deals!!

I had some great deals this week.

First, on New Year's Day we decided to go grab some lunch. I am a huge fan of Zaxby's and I saw that there was a deal that if you joined their E-mail club you get a free meal deal. Well, of course I signed myself and my husband up. In return, our meals were free. Since it was Tuesday, all kids 10 and under eat free, so Jake was free as well. We all three ate lunch for free. And it was delicious!

Wednesday I visited Target where I got some great deals on Huggies!
Here is what I bought:

* Christmas bows (75% off clearance) -- 99 cents
* 3 8 pack of Christmas cards -- 75 cents (totally, 25 cents each)
* Pull Ups -- $9.54
* 3 64ct. Huggies wipes at $2.39 each -- $7.17
* 2 Huggies body washes at $2.84 each -- $5.68
Total before coupons: $24.13

I used 3 of the Target $3 off any 2 Huggies items (halfway down the page)= $9
3 75 cents off Huggies wipes = $2.25
2 $1 off Huggies body wash = $2
Huggies Pull Up coupon = $2

Total after coupons and before tax: $8.88

My total was less than the cost of the Pull-Ups! It was a great shopping day. I have plans to go back next week and get a few more items.

Dude! Great shopping!

I got a few decent deals while I was getting groceries the other day. So good I wanted to review the receipt to see just how much I saved. These stores which show your savings on their receipts are great! Then I don't have to figure out math and use my brain. Well, my savings were good.

However, the item which made me laugh, was the cashier's name.

I think someone is a fan of this movie, and a comedian...with a great taste in movies!

The Sick, Sicker and Sickest

No, you are not seeing things. I am posting twice in one day. I know it's not typical behavior for me, but I feel like griping! That's your disclaimer, read on at your own risk! :)

Today has been quite the day! I woke up this morning, grabbed my clothes and walked to the bathroom. About that time my brain woke up and thought, "What time did the clock say?" So I walked back to my bedroom and looked, it said "7:47." I had to be at work at 8a.m. Whoops! So I yelled at Donnie to wake up too. He moaned and groaned about how bad he felt and he decided to stay home from work. I hurried to get ready and made it to work by 8:20. Sometimes it pays to live 5 minutes from work.

Hoss had an appointment with an ENT doctor at 11:45. Wouldn't you know that he has an ear infection. He has been battling yet another cold over the past week so I wasn't too surprised, just slightly annoyed. Annoyed with the medical bills we continue to rack up and with my child's insane behavior any time he goes to the doctor.

I returned to work and put out a few fires (figuratively!) then picked Hoss up. He had not napped all day and was a crank. He fell asleep on the way to the pharmacy so I just dropped off the prescription (through the drive thru, a great invention!) and went home.

Once we got home Hoss woke up from his 20 minute nap and decided he had to be held by mommy only. Donnie laid on the couch and moaned and groaned some more about being sick. So I quickly made grilled cheese sandwiches with a 35lb. 2 year old on my hip who was crying and whining.

After dinner I gave Hoss a quick bath and then ran back to the pharmacy to get Hoss's medicine (where I was able to get a free $25 gift card, gotta love CVS!) and some more over the counter stuff for Donnie.

Oh, and to top it off I have had a headache all day which is not touched by any medicine. I hope it's not a sign that I'm getting sick too, because without me, the males in my home may just whine themselves to death.

Why do we torture ourselves?

I've shown before just how much fun it is to get 3 children all ages 3 and under to sit still for a picture. Well, we tried again, with great determination, last week. And this is what we got.

Hoss being cool...or sleeping.

G posing like he is in a J-Crew catalog.

Brother and Sister, at least one was looking at the camera!

All 3...take one.

Take 2...each with a toy to entertain, or to envy the one someone else has.

Take 3...oh wait, I don't have take 3. That's all we got folks. Maybe we will do better next year. There's always room for optimism!

Works for Me Wednesday -- Freecycle

Last week we visited with my family out of town for Christmas. Donnie had to leave to go back at work after Christmas, but Hoss and I planned to stay with my parents for a few days. About an hour and half after Donnie left it was discovered that he left with Hoss's car seat. We would be without a car seat for 5 days, which means we would not have the ability to go out and do anything, safely anyway. I immediately posted my need for a car seat on Freecycle.org in my parent's area. Luckily, someone answered my desperate plea and we were able to pick up a car seat for Hoss to use for adventures out on the town.

Freecycle is a website where you can post items you want to give away or for you to look for items you are in need of. All items must be free and you can not accept money or give money for these items, according to the website's policy. Typically, you just have to go pick up the item and then it is your's.

Happy New Year (see how the titles are just getting so much better?)

Happy New Year!!! Our celebration contained drinking as much caffeine as we could in order to stay awake until midnight when we watched the ball drop. Then we spent the next 2 hours trying to come down off our caffeine buzz, which did help me read more in a book I'm trying to finish so my co-worker will stop harassing me about it. I mean, it's not like it's his book or anything, or that I have had it for 4 months. Oh no, nothing like that.

Today I plan to tackle the taking down of the Christmas tree and all decorations, which I am certain will be oh so much fun! Can you tell I'm completely thrilled with the idea and no I am most certainly NOT procrastinating at all.

Since I'm on a blogging roll, after all, I'm posting two whole days in a row, I thought I'd share another story from last week.

On Christmas Eve morning I called my mom to give her our itinerary on when we would be arriving at their house. She said she had been cooking all day to prepare for the eating we would be doing for the next week (and the weight we would be gaining in a week which we will be trying to lose for the next year). She said she made Pineapple Upside Down Cake, but had too much batter for one pan, so she made two small round cakes. She said when she put these out on a plate, she realized that two small round Pineapple Upside Down cakes make an interesting display side by side on a platter.

When I took the picture Mom immediately said, oh no, you aren't going to put this on your blog are you? I can't remember my response...was it no? Oh, well, in that case, sorry Mom, I just had to share. How could I pass it up?
